Routes & Maps

The Mae Hong Son Loop can be completed either clockwise or anti-clockwise. Most people take the northern (anti-clockwise) route via Pai.

The time it takes to complete the ±600km journey depends on the route taken and how slowly you drive, but 4 days as a basic minimum, taking in a number of the vast array of sights along the way, should be expected.

The southern loop section can either go via Doi Inthanon (Thailand’s tallest mountain peak), via Mae Sariang, or a little further South via Tak and Mae Sot on the Burmese border.

This pdf map of the loop from Budget Rent a Car is a very good resource and shows all the above route options with directions and way marks.

  • Pai – Mae Hong Son, via Pang Mapha (113km)

  • Mae Hong Son – Mae Sariang, via Khun Yuam (163km)
